We spent the day going through the extensive resources of Chiswick Library’s Local Studies archive. This is situated behind the mysterious door on the right at the top of the staircase in Chiswick Library. Guided by local historian Carolyn Hammond, with useful interjections from archivist James Marshall, we inspected maps and engravings. Then we ventured down to the basement where the paintings not on displayed are carefully stored in bubble wrap. You know that scene at the end of Raiders of the Lost Art….
